We are pleased to announce the hiring of Lorena Romero to our content development team. Romero will serve as a Spanish Content Developer, producing original stories and translations in Spanish, as well as culturally relevant content for Hispanic/Latino/Latinx communities.
Romero is an experienced library professional with creative skills in visual art, writing, and storytelling. She is also a certified English/Spanish translator. Born and raised in Mexico City, Romero moved to California at age 12. She currently resides in the Bay Area where she also works for the Santa Clara Public Library as a Youth Services Librarian. Some of her responsibilities include facilitating storytime in English and Spanish and providing outreach to Spanish speaking communities.
“My interest in LibraryCall came from a passion for storytelling in English and Spanish,” says Romero. “I look forward to creating and recording original stories that will be relevant to Spanish-speaking families. My favorite story from my youth was a scary tale my mother used to tell me about a haunted house her friend lived in. She said the home was haunted by a man in a black coat and top hat, and that they saw plates flying from the cabinets on their own. It used to terrify me, but I would ask her to tell it to me over and over!”
Romero’s first story is an original adaptation of the popular Mexican ghost story La Llorona. This 13-minute story recording is available through LibraryCall’s Dial-A-Story Studio service, which allows participating libraries to select, schedule, and create stories for sharing with families over any phone and/or library website.
